Launch of the Craft Australia National Historical Collection   by Catrina Vignando   27 March 2012
Craft Australia is pleased to announce the launch of a significant multi-year project. The Craft Australia National Historical Collection (NHC) is a significant slide archive on the development and practice of the Australian Studio Craft Movement from the 1960s to the early 1990s that is now digitised and available online to practitioners, researchers and curators in the field.

With your support Craft Australia has had an extension of funding till the end of April 2012 as opposed to having to close the doors of the organisation by the end of December 2011. This extension will ensure that the programs that have been established by Craft Australia and the historical and visual archives of the Australian studio craft movement that we have collected over the past 40 years are not lost to the sector.
Craft Australia defunded by the Australia Council   by Catrina Vignando   28 October 2011
The Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council announced in October that it would defund Craft Australia, the national peak organisation for the craft and design sector. Without its financial support Craft Australia will be forced to close by December 2011 and its significant 40 year legacy will be lost. The network of Australian Craft and Design Centres, (ACDC), support Craft Australia in seeking to revoke the Visual Arts Board, (VAB) decision
Future proofing: Sustainability models for craft and design practice   by Catrina Vignando   29 April 2011
Craft Australia believes that crafts and design people working in creative micro enterprises are leading the way in new manufacturing methodologies. Their capacity to customise production, resulting in less waste, as well employing new models of marketing and distribution, such as the pop- up shops, are leading to new and more sustainable models of practice.
Australia Day Honours for the craft and design sector   by Kathryn Wells   29 January 2011
On Australia Day 2011, three members of the craft and design sector were recognised for their services to the arts in the Governor-General's Australia Day Honours Lists. The three recipients were Gary Cleveland and Jeff Mincham who were both made Members of the Order of Australia and Virginia Braden who received a Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division. Jeff Mincham and Virginia Braden were company directors on the board of Craft Australia from 2003 - 06.

The inaugural Unlimited: Designing for the Asia Pacific festival features two events developed by artisan and presented by the ACDC (Australian Craft and Design Centres) with the support of the Australia Council for the Arts; the events are Global Artisan and ACDC Design Catalyst Forum. Respectively exploring the challenges and opportunities for creative businesses operating in the globalised marketplace and a national industry and a forum aimed at visioning a future with greater understanding of and recognition for design.

Craft Australia is a member of the Australian Design Alliance that was recently launched at the Sydney Opera House. Catrina Vignando, the General manager of Craft Australia is a director on the Board of ADA and has been involved in the development of this new alliance since its inception 18 months ago.
